Coronavirus Leaves the Markets Sick

An increasing number of experts and politicians are alarming us of the plausible (and impending) economic catastrophe. The next few weeks will decide whether the world will be affected by an economic crisis similar to that of 12 years ago. Scientists still know little about the virus, and market experts do not have ready scenarios for what it can do with the economy. However, they have no reason to reject the darkest scenarios.

The world is a team of connected vessels, so hitting many points at once, the coronavirus seriously violated them. We will soon find out if he also broke (Photo: Universal Press).

The virus, the existence of which we learned almost two months ago, has already spread the "chain of reciprocity" intricately built over the years - the production of millions of items, components and sometimes finished products could take place in one corner of the world, from where they were transported on regular flights, were to a completely different part of the globe. This large factory was primarily China, which for several weeks neither produced nor bought according to the list of orders (China was the great recipient of Brazilian soybeans).

The list of disturbances, those noticeable today and foreseeable, is disturbingly long. "Three months after the outbreak of the Chinese epidemic in Wuhan, the virus storms the course of life even in thousands of kilometres away. Saudi Arabia has suspended pilgrimages to Mecca, South Korea suspended annual exercises with the US army, the International Olympic Committee does not rule out postponing the summer games in Tokyo, Milan fashion dictators cannot show the latest collections and the Arnold Classic Australia has just been called off.

In the US, the virus may change the outcome of the November presidential election if it turns out that Donald Trump cannot control the epidemic. The local sanitary authorities have warned that there will be no vaccine within one year.

Regardless of that thousands of economists and politicians are now wondering how to live in the face of an epidemic that may end in a few weeks, but it may well last for months or even years, there are no ready prescriptions. Perhaps the aura will help us because there is hope that spring will stop the epidemic in the northern hemisphere. What if not? The whole world will have to prepare for a really hard landing.
