Types of Methods in Research

Understanding the different types of research methods is important for conducting a good research.
Understanding the different types of research methods is important for conducting a good research.

Philosophical research

Main features: Philosophical research is also called speculative research or theoretical research. From the perspective of argument, philosophical research can be divided into a deductive method, inductive method, and analogy method. From the standpoint of the research theme, the commonly used methods of philosophical research are essential research, value research, and countermeasure research. The complete philosophical research includes three parts: one is "what," it is displayed as "essential research"; the second is "why," it is presented as "value research"; the third is "how to do," it is presented as "countermeasures" the study."

Critical research: It can also be called "meta-research." Meta-research is mainly a study of existing research, and it focuses mostly on methodological reflection and criticism.

This document discusses the effect of the flipped classroom teaching model on teaching activities. The article begins to analyze the flipped classroom in order to readjust the time in and out of class. This transfers the decision-making power from the teacher to the student, and answers the question of what the flipped classroom is.

The essence of the flipped classroom was studied; secondly, the role of the flipped classroom was studied, and the value of the flipped classroom was discussed from four aspects; finally, by thinking about the challenges encountered in the flipped classroom teaching model, the future flipped through critical research Methodological reflections were made on the development of the classroom. This document conforms to the design ideas of philosophical research and is therefore classified as a philosophical research document.

Practice Research

Main features: Practical research is often "based on spoken language," and a large number of "programmatic definitions," slogans and metaphors are used to describe facts. The practical research is mainly shown as daily education reform, experience summary, and education countermeasures. Practical research done by practitioners (such as primary and secondary school teachers) is also called "practical action research."

Education reform: Similar to educational experiments, it can also be called "problem-solving" or "transformative experimental research" and "practical action research."

Summary of experience: It is also called "education reflection." If teachers improve their daily teaching in a reflective way, this kind of teaching is also called "reflective teaching." The summarization of educational experience is similar to the biography of education. Among them, summing up one self’s educational experience is similar to "education autobiography"; summarizing the education experience of others is similar to "education another biography."

Countermeasure research: The subject is generally expressed as "On the countermeasures of the theory" or "On the problems and countermeasures of the theory" and so on. The study of educational countermeasures, educational ideals, and program design are only random "conceptions" and "views" of the researchers, rather than providing a systematic demonstration of these assumptions and views.

This document reforms the traditional education, analyzes the application of the new teaching model to flip the classroom, summarizes its application effects and deficiencies, and then addresses the deficiencies and puts forward higher requirements for the personnel involved in classroom teaching to allow students, teachers and schools can adapt to a series of innovations brought by flipped classrooms. Finally, new application steps and strategies are proposed for the teaching model. I think it meets the basic characteristics of practical research.

Quantitative research in empirical research

Main features: Quantitative research is based on logical experimental empiricism or empirical theory, and scientific knowledge is obtained through logical principles and reasoning. First, the statistical nature of the research object. Since quantitative research is a research method with the help of mathematical methods, the research object must first be converted into operable data for further analysis; second, the fixed operation procedures, quantitative research Each specific method has its fixed and specific operating procedures; third, the objectivity of the research results, emphasizing the variable analysis of the research object from the empirical facts, through the variable analysis to gain an understanding of objective things, relying on facts Confirm the research results.

This document conducts action research on flipping classrooms in college curriculum teaching, and designs and implements curriculum plans based on the characteristics of flipping classrooms. After describing the background and process of the "Organizational Behavior" course, the satisfaction and dissatisfaction factors of the flipped classroom were investigated.

The research used an open questionnaire and collected a total of 109 thought units and summarized it 18 types of satisfaction factors and 13 types of unsatisfactory factors, and conduct content analysis and in-depth explanation to provide guidance for continuous improvement and optimization of the course. It is consistent with the quantitative research in empirical research.

Qualitative research in empirical research

Main features: Maintain the natural state of the research situation.

2. Pay attention to the explanatory understanding of meaning.

3. Pay attention to the influence of the research relationship.

4. Pay attention to ethics.

5. Use induction.

6. Do not pursue the so-called universally applicable objective Law.

7. Pay attention to the interaction between the researcher and the researched person.

8. Qualitative research reveals humanistic care and shows respect for life.

This document takes e-commerce teaching as an example and conducts an empirical study on the impact of flipped classrooms on teaching quality. By observing real classroom teaching, it is concluded that flipped classrooms can stimulate students' enthusiasm for learning and enable students to participate in teaching actively. So that the students' ability to understand knowledge is deepened and the quality of teaching is improved, which is in line with the observation method of qualitative research in empirical research.

Historical research in empirical research

Main features: The overall characteristics of historical research are the classification, comparison, and interpretation of historical events or concepts. Therefore, historical research can also be referred to as "historical classification research" or "classified historical research," "historical-comparative research" or "comparative historical research," and "explanatory (with perspective) historical research or Historical Hermeneutics Research.

Based on the famous analogy of the essence of a flip classroom, by comparing the traditional classroom with flip classroom, it sorts out the historical development context and teaching steps of a flip classroom, which fully shows Understanding of the flipped classroom teaching model. Finally, some suggestions are put forward for the implementation of the flipped classroom concept, in line with the characteristics of historical research in empirical research.
